C55 One Order of Steak to Please Him

C55 One Order of Steak to Please Him

0Mu Shengchen was actually in the middle of a meeting with Ye Xi and Yan Rui when Ning Qianyu had called him. As soon as he saw the Caller ID, his furrowed eyebrows relaxed and his pursed lips softened. "Hello?" he had called out as if he were calling a child.

What he didn't expect was for Ning Qianyu to tell him that she was having lunch with Professor Mo Yan. She even had the audacity to ask him what he had wanted to eat and that she'd pack it up for him. Just the thought of that was enough to make him irritated. Without thinking, he hung up the phone and didn't say a word. The two men exchanged looks.

"Young Master Mu," the two paused before continuing, "Shall we continue the meeting?"

"Get lost!" He crossed his arms over his chest, and the atmosphere around them had dropped a thousand degrees. His dark gaze was as sharp as a pair of obsidian, and when they swept over the two men, all they could feel was a scary chill running down their spine.

How were they refuse? They didn't even complain as they left Mu Shengchen's study.

Once the two were out, Yan Rui was the first one to speak up, "Why is he so angry? Wasn't it Madame who had called him?"

"How am I supposed to know?" Ye Xi grumbled, rolling his eyes. A few seconds later, his face lit up with realization. "Hey, why don't we check out and see what Madame is doing? Maybe we could figure out why he's acting like this."

"I...Are you sure about that?" The other man looked around tentatively. "If Young Master finds out what we're doing, the consequences could be dire."

"You know that you still have to rush back to B City later in the afternoon." Ye Xi leaned against the wall. "What? Are you just planning on canceling the meeting? It's still your call, you know."

"Fine. Let's do this."

Ye Xi immediately called the driver who had specifically picked Ning Qianyu up from the villa. "She and Professor Mo Yan had already gone to lunch," the driver reiterated the information. "Is there anything else you want to know?"

"Thanks for that." He hung up the phone and turned to Yan Rui. "She and Professor Mo Yan had lunch together."

Had lunch together? That was it? Was that really a big deal? Yan Rui furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "So? Who's Professor Mo Yan anyway? He's a guy, right? How old is he? What does he even look like?" He snorted. "Bet he sounds like an old man."

"Professor Mo Yan is one of the most famous neurosurgeons in the country. He's currently Young Madame's professor, and he's about thirty years old..." Just then, Ye Xi paused.

"That's it? Come on, man, tell me more!" Yan Rui anxiously grabbed his friend by the collar, only to be shoved backward. "Hey! I was being serious." The two had immediately gone into a scuffle.

They pushed and pulled like a bunch of children. Their bickering was echoing throughout the room that they didn't even notice the noise behind them. Finally compromising, Ye Xi sighed.

"The man's handsome, plus he's dignified. Not only is he the youngest neurosurgeon to top the exam, but he's also–"

Before Ye Xi could even finish, someone coughed behind them. Immediately, the coldness of the room returned, and they found themselves freezing from the sudden drop of temperature.

Crap! Crap! Crap! The two shared a look as their hearts wailed in unison. Had the Young Master heard them?

Ye Xi and Yan Rui slowly turned around, and sure enough, Mu Shengchen was standing behind them. His arms were crossed over his chest, and he didn't look too happy with the exchange they had.

"Young Master Chen, you're here!"

He stared at them for around half a minute before snapping, "Get in here. We'll be continuing the meeting."

The two didn't even argue as they sprinted back into the study.

While the apartment was cold and dreary, the Western restaurant was the complete opposite. With their chandeliers hanging low and their curtains all closed, it looked more as if they were having a date than a casual get-together.

Mo Yan slowly pulled a chair for Ning Qianyu, before calling the waiter to order.

"Ladies first." He smiled graciously. "Classmate Ning, what do you want to eat? Feel free to order anything you want."

"Hm, why don't you decide for me?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Ning Qianyu's eyes fell on the other side of the road. The last time she and Mu Shengchen had eaten here, they encountered one of the most annoying people she'd ever met. At the thought, the corners of her lips fell. Right, after what had happened with them from the phone call, she was already anxious as to how he'd react when she gets home.

"Let's order two steaks." He glanced at her. "Would you rather red wine or champagne."

"Any, really." Thinking of Mu Shengchen, she could only stare from afar–distracted.

A few minutes later, the waiter brought a bottle of red wine before the meal. He poured half a cup for them each, before leaving.

Mo Yan raised a cup towards her. "Thank you Classmate Ning for coming to eat with me."

"Hm." She raised her glass and took a sip. The blood-red liquid swished in her glass, but she didn't seem to mind. All she could think about was Mu Shengchen, who was probably waiting at home for her.

The faint sunlight shone on her face, highlighting her high cheekbones and long lashes.

He couldn't help but stare at her for a long time. This was the first time he had ever seen her this beautiful. The sun complimented her beauty. In fact, it had highlighted her best features. The corners of his lips inched upward at the sight.

"Please, Professor, it's my honor." She forced a smile.

"You always address me as Professor," he teased. "It makes me feel very old, you know?"

She chuckled. "You're probably the youngest professor I know!" If she didn't know his real age, she would've thought that they were the same age.

"Why don't you call me Mo Yan instead?" Mo Yan suggested.

Ning Qianyu nodded. "Okay, Professor Mo Yan."

He pouted, glancing at her. "You obviously did that on purpose."

Just then, the waiter finally brought the steaks over. Mo Yan could only sigh and return his attention back to the steak. After all, he might as well do something more productive here.

Ning Qianyu was absentmindedly slicing through the steak. Hm. The last time she had gone to the supermarket, she had bought a slab of meat for the steak. During that time, Mu Shengchen had been busying himself at Mu's while she was busy attending her classes. That was why she never really had a chance to cook for him.

"Are you finished eating?" When Mo Yan looked up, he noticed that she had already neatly placed her knife and fork on the side. The steak on her plate was only half-eaten.

"Right, I don't eat much." She smiled awkwardly, glancing at the traces of blood on her plate. She didn't want to say that she didn't like her steak medium-rare. After all, Professor Mo Yan had already asked her out to dinner. It might just ruin the mood.

Not wanting to ask any more questions, he called the waiter over to pay for the bill. Just as Ning Qianyu was about to reach for her wallet, he grabbed her wrist. "Classmate Ning," he said with emphasis. "I did say I owe you a meal, didn't I?"

"I...Okay. Thank you." She slowly nodded.

"How about I take you home?" he offered while they were heading out of the restaurant, but she automatically shook her head.

As soon as he drove away, her driver stopped in front of her.

"Young Madame, where will you be going?"

"Back to my apartment."

0

She had initially planned to go shopping in the afternoon, but after everything that had gone out, she might as well do it another day. After all, she didn't even know if Mu Shengchen had eaten yet.

When she opened the door and entered the apartment, she could hear Yan Rui and Ye Xi's voices echoing from the study.

Placing her bag on the entrance, she noticed that the door to the study had suddenly opened. There, the two men had already walked out, their somber faces standing out from the summery walls.

"Madame! You're back!" Their eyes widened in surprise.

"Have you two had your lunch?" She glanced at them.

Ye Xi and Yan Rui glanced at the study behind them before saying, "Young Master still hasn't eaten yet. We have to go now." Without another word, the two raced out of the apartment.

"I..." Puzzled, she opened up the fridge and prepared the ingredients for her steak.

Ning Qianyu immediately grilled the steak and added the seasoning according to his specifications. Once everything was cooked to perfection, she slowly entered the study to look for him.
