C66 Caught on a Date?

C66 Caught on a Date?

0Ning Qianyu had just walked out of the Third Hospital with Mo Yan when the phone in her bag rang out. She glanced at her phone to see Ye Xi's Caller ID appearing on her screen. Why was he calling her?

Shooting Mo Yan with an apologetic smile, she answered the phone, "Assistant Ye, is everything okay?"

Hearing the crackling background noise from her side, Ye Xi furrowed his eyebrows. "Madame." A trace of surprise could be heard in his words. "Aren't you in your apartment right now?"

"Oh, no, I met with Professor Mo Yan outside." She stopped in her tracks. "I was going to have lunch with him. Is something wrong?"

There was silence for a couple of seconds when he finally responded, "Everything's fine." Without another word, he hung up the call.

She stared at her phone in confusion. He seemed a little strange today.

Mo Yan had been waiting for her in the front this entire time. When she joined him, he pointed at a car far away. "I'll get my car there, for a second, okay?" He flashed her a smile. "Just wait for me at the gates."

"All right."

While she seemed very unproblematic, Ye Xi was beginning to feel the total opposite. Hesitating for a while, he knocked on Mu Shengchen's door. The conversation he had with Ning Qianyu continued to play in his mind as he waited for his boss's response.

"Come in."

When he walked in, he could see that Mu Shengchen was holding a document in his left hand while his right arm was propped over his chin. There was complete silence around the room as he stared at the scribbled document.

"Young Master," he called out after a moment's hesitation.

He continued to stare at his document, and his expression remained unchanged. "Hm." Seeing that he was still preoccupied, Ye Xi decided to stay silent as he stood at the back quietly–not wanting to disrupt his workspace.

After what seemed to be a couple of minutes, he finally set his document on top of the stack and leaned back on his wheelchair. "What were you going to say?"

"Madame isn't in her apartment. Maybe it's best that we leave her out–"

"What did you say?" He cocked up an eyebrow.

Just as he was about to explain himself, Mu Shengchen waved his hand dismissively. "Ye Xi, how long have you been with me?"

Although startled, he responded, "I've been following you for five years."

"Then you must know that I'll be aware if you're lying." His tone was incredibly gentle, but it was enough to make his assistant shiver in fear. Mu Shengchen still remained complacent as he tilted his head. "Now, what were you going to say?"

"I...I'm sorry, Sir." He bowed his head.

"Madame said that she happened to meet with Professor Mo Yan while she was visiting Mrs. Ning." There was a small pause before he continued, "She decided to have lunch with him too."

Ye Xi could hear a cracking sound, and when he looked up, he saw that Mu Shengchen's pen had already broken into two. He immediately shrank back, resisting the urge to flinch at the sight. "I...Young Master–" Before he could say anything, the man raised his hand.

"You may leave now."

"A-All right." Nodding, he left the office. It turned out that the Young Master had taken this better than he thought he would.

As soon as Ye Xi had left, Mu Shengchen raised his hand and flipped the desk in front of him. The stack of papers toppled to the ground and the pens clattered everywhere. Despite this, the coldness in his eyes still hadn't faded.

Suddenly, the phone on the ground rang out, and he frowned. It continued to ring a couple more times when he finally picked it up.

"This is Mu Shengchen." His lips straightened into a thin line.

He couldn't care less what the other side had said. All he could do was nod his head and hang up the phone.

At that time, Ye Xi heard a sound of a crash when he rushed into the office. "Young Master, are you..."

As soon as he saw the flipped over desk and messy floors, he froze. Turned out the man didn't really take it well at all.

"The vice president will be treating everyone in Yupin Xiang Restaurant at noon," he stated as if he hadn't noticed the mess he made in the office. "Get ready."

"Of course." Nodding, he cleaned up his office.

Yupin Xiang Restaurant was as elegant and beautiful as their dishes. In fact, the restaurant was incredibly popular and was often seen in many gourmet magazines. Everyone wanted to eat there. As such, it was incredibly popular among the locals.

Ning Qianyu had always loved plated Chinese dishes. In fact, she had thought that if she got the prize money by the end of the year, she'd invite Mu Jinbo to eat here. Sadly, before she could come here, they had already broken up.

What she didn't expect was to treat her teacher to the restaurant that she had admired for a long time.

Ning Qianyu couldn't help but feel disappointed. If she hadn't treated Mu Jinbo, then she could've used the money to treat her husband, Mu Shengchen. After all, the man had already done so much for her...

'Couldn't you have picked someplace else?' she asked yourself, resisting the urge to bash herself on the skull. Why did she have to take Professor Mo Yan here of all places?

Ning Qianyu was dressed nicely today. With a pure white dress and a small belt, she looked like a woman who had just stepped out of a magazine. As her dark hair fell past her shoulders, she looked like the epitome of elegance and youthfulness.

Even Mo Yan couldn't take his eyes off her.

"The food here has become famous all around City A," he stated. "We should have a taste."

"Hm, it is quite delicious." She nodded in agreement.

Mo Yan paused. "By the way, what's your mother's illness?"

"She has a heart problem," she later responded after a few seconds of hesitation.

"I know a cardiologist expert in the Third General Hospital. If you need his assistance, I could easily–"

"Thank you, but she has already finished her surgery." Ning Qianyu smiled easily, shaking her head. "She's already recovering now."

"That's good then."

The two ate in silence.

At that moment, Mu Zhengsheng led a few of his high-ranking members into the Yupin Xiang Restaurant. Everyone stood tall and proud as they puffed up their chest, revealing their branded suits and suitcases.

"Welcome, do you have any reservations?"

Before he could answer, a middle-aged man walked out from behind the counter.

"Vice President Mu, you're here!"

0

"Manager Wen, is the banquet hall on the second floor ready?" A warm smile appeared on his features.

The man bowed respectfully. "We have already prepared it."

Mu Zhengshen nodded, satisfied with the response. He then turned around and waved someone over. "Shengchen," he called out. "This is Manager Wen. We're familiar with each other. If you were to come and eat here, you can look for him."

"You must be Young Master Mu." Yupin Xiang was one of the top restaurants in the city. It was only natural that Manager Wen was familiar with many of the higher-ups. He didn't need to look amongst the crowd to see Mu Shengchen.

Mu Shengchen remained indifferent as he nodded in response.

Darkness shrouded over the man's expression, but it quickly dissipated. After all, who was he to be arrogant about it all? Plastering a smile on his face, he quickly led them upstairs. "Vice President, Young Master Mu, allow me to lead you to your tables."

"Of course." Mu Zhengsheng nodded. Ye Xi pushed Mu Shengchen, while everyone in the back followed.

As soon as they left, everyone erupted into whispers. "Who are these people? The manager even welcomed them personally. Are they really that important?" one of the waiters whispered ignorantly.

The other man blinked back in surprise. "Don't you know them? They're the higher-ups in the Mu Group."

As soon as Ning Qianyu heard the words 'higher-ups', she immediately raised her head. There, she could see a familiar tuft of hair appearing in the crowd. Her heart stopped, and her hands froze.
