Mini Chapter: Rin and the Fish Part 2

Mini Chapter: Rin and the Fish Part 2

0Rin sat on the shore planning her next move. That unfair move the fish pulled forced her to make a hasty esca- ... strategic withdrawal. After a good shimmy, shake, and shiver, the little furball was back to being one hundred percent water free. The stupid fish will pay.

Speaking of the fish, it was floating near the surface of the lake watching the would-be predator. A glint of malic shined in its eyes. Many of its brethren fell to the false food on the shiny spike, and it refused to join them. It glanced at the box that its captured comrades were trapped in. Those odd two-leggers left it unguarded and the fish was wondering what it could do to free the fish within.

Pacing back and forth at the edge of the water wasn't helping Rin think of any good ideas. If it was her master, he would have grabbed the fish with magic like he does everything else when he's being too lazy to get up. While she was trying to come up with ideas, the fish had one of its own. Even if it couldn't open the box to save its friends right now, it could at least bring the box into the lake and away from enemy territory.

With a speed that Rin didn't expect, the fish darted above the water's surface towards the camp. Magical power surrounded the finned menace as it used the lake water to push it faster towards its target. The kitten got ready to defend herself. Moments later, Rin realized she wasn't the target. Her eyes widened in realization. It was after the box of fish.

She couldn't let that happen for several reasons. One: it would make her master and the rest of the people upset. Two: She wouldn't let the fish have the satisfaction of beating her again. Three: If the cooler of fish disappeared, then she wouldn't be able to have any to eat after the fox lady cooked it. Fueled by duty, and hunger, she made her move.

The fish's charge was interrupted as a paw suddenly slammed into the side of its face. Rin's attack knocked the scaled menace into the ground with a loud splat. Not wasting any time, she followed up with a pounce and started to claw against the creature's scales. Using a thin reinforced barrier of water to defend, the fish was trying to think of a way to get out of this situation. Apparently, the cat on top of it was not as weak as it first thought. However, it was not going to stop just because the land animal had the upper hand. It waited for the right moment to counterattack.

Rin kept up her furious swipes, but they weren't strong enough. She took a moment to gather some magic power to reinforce her attack with a wind blade. Using the pause between Rin's attacks, the fish bent forward and slapped its tail against the ground hard enough to send it back towards the lake. Since she was already gathering wind magic, Rin quickly reacted as sent a gust at the fish to knock upward off course. Then she ran underneath it and prepared an attack to meet it when it came down.

As it was falling, its eyes met the cat's. They stared at one another ready for their battle. Magic gathered around fin and paw. Soon one would stand and the other would fall. They knew that the showdown was about to end. When they were close enough, RIn and the fish attacked.

A clawed swipe was met with a fin slap. Bursts of wind were countered by sprays of water. Neither gave in and both attacked to kill. As their battle was nearing its climax, the fish was suddenly lifted in the air against its will and held still. It struggled against an invisible force and tried to resist using its own magic, but it was ineffective.

Rin stopped and looked on confused. She didn't do that. Then she heard her favorite voice in the world saying one of her favorite words in the world.

"Rin, I got your cookies."
