PS I'm (not) Over You

Frustration and Regret

Frustration and Regret

0Her plans were forgotten as she tried to understand her current predicament. She could not go back to the life she had before. Yelan thought she knew everything about herself, about her family. However, these new revelations shook everything she believed in—challenged what she knew.

As if in a trance, she made her way back to her bedroom assigned to her. She sat on the bed and covered her face with both of her hands. What should she do now?

Yelan collapsed on the bed and turned her head on one side, only to see a telephone near her bed. Slowly, she sat up, crawled, and picked up the phone. Fortunately, it was connected. She needed to talk with Yuna, to know what really happened before, and to get to the bottom of this.

If it had a bottom. What if it was a continuous fall? How deep could this be? She was afraid that the deeper she dive, the darker the secrets would be.

Her finger was trembling as she dialed Yuna's phone number and waited for someone to pick up her call. The facts that she read earlier had made her dry-heave as it kept repeating the scenes in her mind like a headline in a news report.

Her father could be part of an underground mob.

Her mother wasn't his only wife.

She was the daughter of a cold-blooded murderer.

She broke into a cold sweat even though the chilly wind from the outside shook the frame of her windows. It should be enough to make her teeth chatter in the coldness of the night.

"Hello."

"Hello. May I speak to Yuna Song?" she said while twirling a lock of her hair and bit her lower lip in nervousness.

"Hold on," said the old woman on the other line.

"Yuna speaking. May I know who this is?" The familiar voice had made her heart swell with happiness.

"Yuna, it's me," Yelan replied in almost a whisper.

"Yelan? Where the hell are you? I've been calling you for days, but no one is answering my calls! I asked someone to check on your place, but everything there was a mess!"

Yelan hesitated to answer. What if the line was wire-tapped and someone was listening to their conversation? She pondered if she should tell her friend the truth, but she decided not to just in case Samuel was still after her.

"I'm okay, Yuna, but could you please do me a favor?"

She heard Yuna grumbled at the other line, probably having a headache because of her.

"Okay. Tell me what is it?" Yuna replied.

"Can you please check the result of the experiment I left at my lab? I'm pretty sure it's done by now. I'm sorry, I took the specimen with me. I didn't mean to take it away from the lab," she explained.

"Is that all? You don't have to worry about it. It seems like we wrongly assumed that it was the thing I was looking for. I've already locked your lab so everything should be fine once you're back. If you still have that specimen with you, get rid of it as soon as possible. It would be dangerous if you are going to be exposed to it."

"What kind of poison is it?" Yelan asked. She was so excited about this new discovery that she and Yuna encountered during one of their trips at the deepest part of the jungle of the Southern Province.

"Yelan, it's not a poison. We were wrong to assume that it was." Her tone had a hint of hesitation that wasn't lost to Yelan.

"Then, what is it?" Yelan asked in confusion.

"A plant virus." Yuna informed her at once.

Yelan frowned. Plant viruses couldn't be classified as a pathogen to animals and human beings. Eating or touching an infected plant would not infect a person with the same pathogen that was making the plant sick.

"Then, I should be fine. Plant viruses can't really affect our bodies."

"Not this one, Yelan. Your subjects died from multiple organ failure after ingesting the specimen you left."

---

Ririna had been too silent for Yelan's liking. She knew something was going on her daughter's mind, and she wouldn't probably like it if she found out what it was. Or maybe she knew all along, but she refused to consider that her daughter had come up with the conclusion based on her recollection.

'Please say something. At least give me some reactions whether you shout or hit me, I would understand.'

She'd put her own daughter in a dangerous situation that could cause her life. Not only that, she'd also put Ririna's future in jeopardy.

Yelan closed her eyes and wished that she hadn't done that mistake before. If she hadn't used that specimen on Samuel, she knew she and Daniel would be dead long ago. Ririna wouldn't have suffered from the same illness that she brought upon Samuel.

Yes, it was her who had poisoned and made Samuel lose his ability to walk. It was her who injected the poisonous substance in his bloodstream when he tried to **** her. Never did she think that Samuel would bring the same fate to Ririna. Damn it, if only she knew Samuel would use her own daughter to find a cure, she should've made sure he was dead for good.

Was it too late for her to save her daughter's life? What about Skyler? Was he suffering on the same illness her daughter has?

When Yuna told her about Ririna's illness, Yelan was in despair. Ririna should be dead by now. How her body put it on its dormant state—she had no idea. However, her pregnancy with Skyler had triggered it and started to affect her whole body.

Did Eli know that his wife was slowly dying as they spoke? And now that Ririna was pregnant again for the second time, her immunity could change anytime. How could she tell Ririna to abort the fetus on her womb if she wanted to survive from her illness?
