0After Weng Bisa's two bodyguards brought Ning Qianyu out of Mu Jinbo's apartment, they followed her instructions to take her to a small inn in City A's notorious underground scene.    

    

A small part of the downtown area was the government's biggest blindspot. Many of their notorious gangsters live around the area, so it was a dangerous place, even for their most respected police force. There has already been an agreement between the two parties. The government would leave them alone, and the gangs would stick to their borders.    

    

After the two bodyguards sent her into a small hostel, they soon left without worry.    

    

While this spot also happened to be remote and chaotic, it was also being held by a certain force–one belonging to Mu Shengchen himself. It was only expected that they'd listen to him.    

    

Not long after they sent her there, he had already asked people to search them from door to door. There, they finally found Ning Qianyu buried under the covers.    

    

"Young Master Chen, we found Young Mistress!"    

    

It was obviously happy news as Mu Shengchen rushed over. He didn't waste any time as he sent her to the hospital. Even then, the unrest in her features still hadn't disappeared as she writhed and trembled under the covers.    

    

Ning Qianyu was in a sad state. Her pale face looked gaunt under the streaming light, and her normally bright red lips had become white and blue from the cold. His heart pained at the sight.    

    

"Qianyu," he slowly called out her name.    

    

She slowly opened her eyes and stared up at him. Immediately, her eyes turned glassy as she threw herself into his arms.    

    

"Is it really you?" she sobbed in his grasp as tears trailed across her cheeks.    

    

"It's okay," he whispered. The anger and frustration in his heart had been suppressed as he kissed her on the forehead. He would find whoever did this to her, but for now, he'd take care of her. "I'm here."    

    

Just then, a thought crossed her mind and she pushed him away. "Don't touch me," she murmured. "I'm already dirty."    

    

"You're not dirty." He immediately took her into his arms, but she immediately struggled under his grip.    

    

"I am! I am," she cried out.    

    

In the end, Mu Shengchen had to ask Ye Xi to find a doctor and give her a tranquilizer. Within a few minutes, she had finally fallen asleep in his arms, and he sighed in relief. He clenched his fists.    

    

When they were finally alone, he looked up at his assistant. "Well? Did you find who did this?"    

    

"We've found no surveillance anywhere. Even then, there are thousands of people who go in and out. It will take days for us to check every single one of them," Ye Xi said hesitantly.    

    

"Then keep checking!" He banged his fist onto the table.    

    

"Yes, Sir."    

    

Mu Shengchen sat by her bedside, holding her hand tightly this entire time. A part of him was worried that if he let her go, she'd disappear. For the first time in his life, he couldn't help but feel incompetent. "Am I really that useless?" he murmured to himself. What the hell was he doing?    

    

Even after Ning Qianyu had woken up, she didn't feel better. No matter what he'd say, she still wouldn't listen. She didn't drink. She didn't eat. She didn't even talk. She was like a ghost that had simply passed into the border of life and death.    

    

In the end, he could only helplessly watch as he brought her back into the apartment. Only then did she jump up and race into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.    

    

Half an hour passed, and Ning Qianyu still hadn't come out. "Qianyu," he called out anxiously, knocking on the bathroom door. "Qianyu, come out. Are you feeling okay? Do you need me to come in?"    

    

All he could hear was the running water. As each second had passed, he only grew more and more anxious. "Qianyu," he said once again. "If you don't come out, I'll force my way in." There was still no response. Without another word, he grabbed the key and pushed the door open.    

    

Mist clouded his vision, but as soon as he stepped forward, he could see a pale shadow sitting in the bathtub. There, he saw Ning Qianyu crying as she struggled to scrub herself from top to bottom. Her skin was red and wrinkled, but that didn't stop her from scrubbing.    

    

"Qianyu," he breathed out, forcing her out of the bathtub. Wrapping a towel around her, he tried to restrain her as she forced her way into the water.    

    

"I'm dirty," she repeated, sobbing. "Just let me continue. Please...Please..."    

    

He sighed, shaking his head. Mu Shengchen gently placed her onto the bed, kissing her softly on the lips. However, before he could deepen it, she pushed him away. "Don't kiss me," she murmured. "I don't deserve it. I don't deserve your love, I–"    

    

"Nonsense. You're not dirty." He kissed the tears away, rubbing her back.    

    

Pushing the strands of her hair behind her ear, he kissed every corner of her face. "It's okay, it's okay," he murmured as his lips brushed against her bare skin.    

    

She wanted to refuse, wanted to push him away and say how she wasn't worthy of his love, but she couldn't. Now, she could only accept his kisses with as much vigor as she had initially wanted. There, they lie on the cushions until both their bodies were aching and tired.    

    

"I don't deserve you," she said weakly, trailing her fingers down his jaw.    

    

"You are. In fact, I'm the one who doesn't deserve you," he said firmly as he pulled her even closer.    

    

"I..." She didn't really know why this man had so much strength. Was he not tired? However, she continued, groaning under his touch. "I believe you."    

    

"You're only saying it," he teased.    

    

A small smile trailed across her lips. "I really do believe you."    

    

They lie on the bed for what seemed to be ages when he finally turned. A dark look shrouded across his features. "Do you know who had taken you?" he slowly asked, unable to help himself.    

    

As soon as his words slipped out of his lips, she froze. Mu Jinbo flashed in the back of her mind, and she immediately shivered under his hold.    

    

Mu Shengchen cursed under his breath as he pulled her into his arms. Not being able to help himself, he could only squeeze his eyes shut. The pain in his chest suddenly became too hard to bear.    

    

"He used ether, and I fainted," she slowly said, hiding in his arms. "I don't know who he is."    

    

He kissed her on the forehead. "It's okay," he slowly comforted. "The matter has already passed. We don't have to think about it anymore."    

    

Nodding, she slowly closed her eyes.    

    

It was morning as daylight streamed through the curtains, shining over the couple on the bed. One could hear faint chirps as the beautiful morning had finally arrived upon them.    

    

Ning Qianyu leaned her head against his strong chest. Although she was exhausted, she couldn't find it in herself to fall asleep again. All she could do was stare at the handsome man at her bedside. No matter how long she stared, he still looked amazing. Her lips curved.    

    

"Good morning," he rasped out.    

    

"Morning." Yawning, she slowly moved away from his grasp as she sat up.    

    

"I'll go make breakfast."    

    

However, before she could move, he grabbed her arm. "I'll go."    

    

"You?" She blinked.    

    

"Hey, I may not know how to cook more intricate dishes, but I know how to make a simple breakfast," Mu Shengchen teased with a pout. Without another word, he put on his clothes and left the room. "Don't move, all right?"

But how could he expect her to be obedient? Blinking wearily, she forced herself to endure the fatigue as she stood up from her bed. She snuck into the living room. There, she could see Mu Shengchen's figure as he worked in the kitchen, but even then, she still couldn't see what he was doing.
